A B O U T

My artistic practice explores how women are placed upon the pedestal as though they are performing for the male; I use numerous mediums, such as installation, audio and video, to advertise the ever-present problem of women’s rights and equality in the areas surrounding me.

It is through exploring my practice that I have discovered I am a Feminist in the term’s most basic form; I believe in equality for women above all else.

Feminism has become a dirty word; some people think that to be a Feminist is about believing that women are higher than men – although this is completely untrue. The topic has now become a taboo subject, due to numerous misconceptions, and something for people to scoff and roll their eyes at – myself included.

My work aims to highlight the problems with how young women are represented within my own society and attempt to amend them with interactive designs constructed for participants to change the visual outcome of the work. Through this, I examine the environment encircling me from a woman’s perspective to try to interpret and accept my own behaviour.

I want people to recognise that a female’s demeanour is a reflection of the social pressures placed upon her in order for her to be accepted in humanity; on a daily basis, women face ridicule and expulsion from their communities due to the way they present themselves.
